Olamilekan Agbeleshe (born 8 November 1993), known professionally as Layton, is a Nigerian rapper, singer and reality TV personality. Born and raised in Lagos State. Laycon is signed under Fierce Nation Entertainment Limited (F.N.E LTD).
He’s a graduate of philosophy from the University of Lagos who started his musical journey at an early age and has now emerged as one of Nigeria’s most promising new school acts. He describes himself as being versatile and able to coin words together to soothe scenarios and moods.
Laycon has being blessed and supported with good prominent people with lots of votes from the likes of Reminisce, Oxlade, Chinko Ekun, iamDo2dtun, Sean Tizzle, Joeboy, Blaqbonez, Ckay, Toyin Lawani, Badboy Timz, Di’Ja, Ice Prince, Daddy Freeze, Denrele Edun, Teni Makanaki, Stephanie Coker, Tunde Ednut, Small Doctor, Yul Edochie, Vector, Anita Joseph, Cute Abiola, Oluwaseyi Edun, Funmi Awelewa, Yvonne Jegede, Jide Awobona, Samklef, Odunlade Adekola, and many others are rooting for him through their social media platforms.
Everybody loves a winner but like most things these days, winners are accorded a short attention span. You’re only as relevant as your present win. Laycon had the great fortune of winning the 2020 edition of the biggest reality tv show in Africa (at the moment), Big Brother Naija. Just like Efe, who won the show 2 years ago, Laycon is a rapper.
Unlike Efe, the fact that he was a musician was one of his biggest selling points while he was on the show. His EP ‘Who Is Laycon’ which had been released before he made it to the house, helped in selling him to the audience.
Reminisce and Chinko Ekun were featured on his EP and of course, they co-signed him when he got on the show. The music industry rallied around him and supported and have been singing his praises since he won. DJ Neptune has already gotten a verse from him for another ’Nobody’ remix and it will be safe to assume that a lot more people would have reached out to him as well for features.
So what’s next for Laycon? What should his next move be?
That’s the simple answer. With the fame and massive fanbase he has acquired, it’s time to work on converting that audience into his music consumers and it has to be done as soon as possible before the audience moves on to the next shiny thing. For now, he can reach out to almost any producer, songwriter, singer or A&R in the industry to collaborate with him in creating a solid project. With a few good songs, he will remain relevant and he can build upon that to become a real force to be reckoned with. Longevity is the play here. Without it, every other thing fades away.
