Reloaded Ravens Poised For Return To Postseason

If it weren’t for injuries to Lamar Jackson, Marlon Humphrey, Marcus Peters and Gus Edwards, the Baltimore Ravens would have surely been in the playoffs for a fourth straight year.

But the Ravens were forced to play their final four games without the 2019 league MVP, and three of those losses were decided by three points or less. Humphrey missed the team’s final five games. Edwards and Peters missed the entire season after they both suffered ACL tears in a practice.

So in some ways, it was admirable that the Ravens finished 8-9 with a brutally difficult schedule. A healthy Jackson alone makes the Ravens a bonafide Super Bowl contender. Humphrey and Peters will bring the well-rounded secondary back to its dominant form, and Edwards will add a much-needed boost in the running game.

Right now, the Ravens are a +2200 longshot to win next year’s Super Bowl at DraftKings and +2100 at FanDuel. Maryland Caesars sportsbook will soon launch within the state and provide special promo codes and bonuses to its customers.

Customers who sign up for Maryland Caesars can get a free authentic NFL jersey if they place $100 wagers on NFL games. Fans will be able to bet on sports like football, basketball, hockey, golf, tennis, soccer and auto racing.

Ravens GM Eric DeCosta made a giant free agency splash by landing former New Orleans Saints ball-hawking safety Marcus Williams on a five-year deal worth $70 million.

Baltimore also brought in standout offensive tackle Morgan Moses and veteran defensive tackle Michael Pierce on three-year pacts. DeCosta will have the chance to put the finishing touches on an excellent offseason at the upcoming NFL Draft.

Early 2022 Regular Season Predictions: 11-6 Record & AFC North Division Champions

The Ravens will have one of the NFL’s toughest schedules in 2022, and it’s not just because they play in arguably football’s most difficult division.

They’ll play the entire AFC East division, which featured three teams with winning records in 2021: The Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins. They’ll host the Russell Wilson-led Denver Broncos and travel to New Orleans and Tampa Bay for tough road slates against the Saints and Buccaneers.

But with Jackson, Baltimore boasts a championship-caliber offense. Their secondary has all the makings to be football’s best next year. Williams, Humphrey and Peters have 55 career interceptions combined.

Yes, the defending AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals will be a problem. The Cleveland Browns acquired Deshaun Watson in a blockbuster move with the Houston Texans, and the Pittsburgh Steelers hope to revive free agent pickup Mitch Trubisky. This will not be an easy 17-game stretch by any means.

But if Baltimore could go 8-9 with a difficult schedule and all those injuries, they are absolutely capable of improving their win total by at least three. Few, if any, teams are as balanced as John Harbaugh’s group.

The way-too-early prediction here is that the Ravens will go 11-6 to claim their third AFC North division title in five years. They’ll split the season series with each of their three division rivals and fall to the Patriots (on the road) and Bills (at home), but take care of business against the rest.

This will include monumental wins over Tom Brady’s Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium and home victories over Cincinnati and Cleveland. For the fourth time in the Jackson era, the Ravens will hit double-digit wins.

Playoff Prediction: Ravens Lose To Bills In AFC Championship Game

The AFC is absolutely loaded with contenders.

As a passer, Jackson may not be as great as the likes of Justin Herbert, Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen, but that doesn’t matter. It’s a team game, and few clubs are built to go on deep playoff runs better than Baltimore.

They have a hard-hitting and suffocating defense, and their explosive rushing game can wear down opponents on any given day.

The Ravens match up well against teams like the Bills, Patriots, Browns, Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs because they have the personnel to slow down the passing game and the runners to take advantage of the interior defensive lines.

But the addition of Von Miller should be a game-changer for a Bills’ front seven that lacked big-time playmakers in 2021. Allen has been virtually impossible to contain in the postseason, so it’s hard not to like the Bills’ chances against any other team in the AFC.

The early playoff prediction here is that the Bills will outlast the Ravens in the AFC title game to book their first Super Bowl trip in 29 years.
