Sometimes, a lot of us have this sensation that makes us feel like there is a worm moving around speedily in our chest region. In case you don’t know it is actually a medical condition and it is called Atrial Fibrillation.

Atrial Fibrillation is actually caused by irregular heartbeat and it affects millions of people all across the world.

Now, understanding the causes and symptoms of atrial fibrillation can in a way, help you to manage the condition and event help prevent you from having additional complications.

Causes of Atrial Fibrillation

Although this differs from one person to another, but most commonly, atrial fibrillation is caused by high blood pressure or an abnormal heart valve.

Other causes may include:

1. Pericarditis

2. Coronary artery disease (when the arteries of the heart clog). This could lead to a cardiac arrest or in layman’s terms, a heart attack.

3. Heart failure.

4. Heart defects you are born.

5. Over working thyroid glands.

Atrial Fibrillation Can Lead To The Following

1. Lack of sleep

2. Blood sugar problems (Diabetes)

3. Obesity

4. Lung problems

5. It may also become hereditary and get passed on to generations.

Symptoms

While symptoms may not be clearly evident in certain individuals, others are fully aware the moment the irregular pulse/beats starts. For those that experience symptoms, you’d generally feel the tingly movement in your chest, and feel extremely tired.

Other symptoms that are not well pronounced include;

Short breath, Dizziness, and heavy chest pain.

At the onset, atrial fibrillation usually starts and stops by itself. Some times they stop in minutes, hours, and sometimes can last up to a week. However, it may become permanent over time as you age if not properly treated.
