90-Year Old Woman From UK Becomes First To Get Covid-19.
The first human in the world to receive the Covid-19 vaccine is a 90-year old woman simply identified as Margaret Keenan.
Speaking to Reuters, an obviously elated Keenan said it was the best birthday gift she could get as she can now spend quality holiday time with her family and friends after being in isolation and alone to herself for almost a year.
According to The Associated Press, Keenan reportedly got the shot at University Hospital Coventry, as the first phase of Britain’s mass vaccination began.
Another 81-year-old man named William Shakespeare was the second person in the U.K. to receive the vaccine. His name has been trending on U.K Twitter ever since with various users relating him to the famous writer of blessed memory.
You would recall that Russia had already began vaccinating doctors and teachers with their own Sputnik V vaccine since Saturday, but the U.K. is the first country to deliver the vaccine to the general public.
According to The New York Times reports, fifty hospitals will administer the vaccine until the government can finalise a plan for delivering them at nursing homes and doctor’s offices.
Meanwhile, an independent committee of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will meet to discuss Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccine on Thursday, and an emergency use authorization is expected shortly after U.S. health officials have said it anticipates only 6.4 million doses will be available before the end of the year, enough for about 3.2 million people since Pfizer’s vaccine is administered in two doses three weeks apart.
