Ahead of the 2023 general election, the national assembly has passed the electoral bill into law amidst rowdy sessions in the house over uncertainty surrounding the electronic transmission of votes from the polling unit.

The Senate President,Ahmed Lawan says that electronic transmission of votes can only be possible if the Nigerian Communications Commission can certify it and then approved by the senate.

The reason for the failure to include the electronic transmission of votes in the new electoral act according to the senate president is the lack of network reception in some parts of Nigeria.

Nigerians continues to call for the inclusion of electronic transmission of votes in the amended electoral bill before the President will sign it into law so as to give INEC the power to transfer votes electronically from polling booths
